As I progress with photographing communities and people in the area in preparation of starting my new book, I’ll be adding some of the photos to my website.
This is about Whitingham and the Sawyer Mansion. A Mr. Sawyer, long ago, started a factory making bent wood. It still exists and is just down the street. It is called Sawyer Bentwood. One of the early Sawyers (I may know more later) built a house that eventually became the mansion it is today. Around 1995 two murders happened in the house. (Again I’ll know more later). The house gradually deteriorated until a couple, who had never heard of Whitingham, saw something about it in a real estate ad. They were intrigued and bought the house, gutted it, and remade the inside. It is now a gorgeous B&B. The first floor is in the Victorian style and each bedroom has been done in different styles.
