While exploring the small towns near the Vermont border in Massachusetts, I drove to Florida, the highest and coldest in the state, just up the mountain from North Adams. I came to see Stan Brown and his wife. Stan had been many things in his life including being the owner of Brown’s garage. Here he is in his mechanic’s hat. I found also that he had a large collection of hats and his wife, Maralyn,  tried on one with pheasant feathers. They were a charming and entertaining couple. In Portraits.

I’m investigating the ninteenth century mills in North Adams that are being renovated for new purposes. The 19th century quality of the mills make them prime objects for photography. But it’s also interesting to see the juxtaposition of the modern. Here is a bicycle rack just installed at the Greylock Works mill. The parallel circles and their shadows make an interesting picture by itself. In Vermont Stories.

I seem to be living in North Adams and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) these days. The buildings most recently were inhabited by Sprague Electric. When Sprague went out of business the buildings were let vacant until they were given to a new entity, MASS MoCA, which gloried in their industrial environment for displaying often huge works of art.. But today it was the building themselves that I found enchanting, particularly the Boiler Building. The old rusty pipes and heating units are fascinating in themselves. Here are three. I don’t know enough about plumbing and heating to give them names. In Vermont Stories.
