I love New York and can never get enough.
In New York’s Lower Manhattan, architect Santiago Calatrava’s Oculus transportation hub rose from the debris of the September 11th terrorist attacks, as an organic form within a field of towers and the memorials representing them.
Following are photos of the Oculus. Which can be found in my New York portfolio.
From the first drawings I saw of the about-to-be new trade center I was fascinated by Santiago’s Oculus. It was the new subway station for the subway, and what a station. It looked like a bird about to take off. Here are some photos taken early on a Sunday morning when few people were around. Where there are images on the wall, they move. As I was leaving I talked with one of the guards. i’m sorry it is not a great picture but she was extremely friendly. All in all this was the cleanest subway station I have seen anywhere in the world.
This is the new World Trade Center. There is a controversy with Chicago over which city has the tallest building in the United States. Chicagoans say the former Sears tower is it because it’s offices are the highest. New Yorkers, however, say the WTC is the tallest at 1776 feet including the spike on top
