New York City was my home for 30 years. It is an inexhaustible source for photos and some of the most interesting are of its people. Go to Union Square early in the morning and sit quietly or amble along its paths. It’s surprising what you may find. Here are four people who were enjoying themselves.
Woman with her dog. Did you ever notice that often a person and their dog look alike?
What is life without a cell phone. This man was totally absorbed by what he saw. Former Mayor Giuliani said anyone in public places is fair game to be photographed. So I sat quietly for a long time quietly watching this man until he picked up his phone.
Sometimes your just have to go to sleep. This man found a quiet place and stretched out on two park benches.
I’ve found it very easy to talk with almost anyone. This gentleman had on a Michigan State sweat shirt so I walked over and asked when he went to Michigan. We ended up with a lively and friendly discussion. Who knows, maybe he really did go to Michigan State only to end up with hard times. He was delightful.
It’s not often that I come across a humorous subject. But while I was working on a book about Long Island City in New York I went to the Sculpture Center to see what was there. Here was this enormous creature out of wood with a Japanese man squatting staring into the mouth of this fantastic sculpture.
Remember “Occupy Wall Street” where demonstrators were camped out for days on a small island in the road in the Wall Street area until the police finally came early in the early morning–I think it was around 2 am) and flushed them out. The main ‘beef’ was the inequality of pay between the CEOs and the workers. This man went all out with his painted face and carried an enormous sign.
